Maritime History Tour with Captain Betsy Miller & Scottish Rum Tasting.

This half day walking tour, takes place a the Harbourside in Irvine, Ayrshire.

Beginning at the Scottish Maritime Museum, you will view many of the fascinating maritime exhibits in the vast Scottish Maritime Museum.  You will meet Captain Betsy Miller 1798 - 1864.  Elizabeth Miller was the first registered female sea captain, she will tell you about her life.  You will take a short walk to the Shipworkers Tenement Rooms and meet Maggie MacIntosh who will tell you about life growing up in the Harbourside during the 1920's.  From there you will visit the Puffers cafe and then walk to the Harbour Lights cafe to sample Scottish made rum.  3 x rum samples are included the ticket price or West Coast Ginger wine, a delicious non-alcoholic warming drink.

Millers & Merchants Tour with luxury 3 course lunch served by Annie Currie.

This full day, self transporting tour explores the textile and lace production in Ayrshire whilst comparing the lives of manual and white collar workers in the early 1900's. The tour will begin at Dalgarven Mill built in 1614 which houses an amazing collection of period costumes. You will travel onto Newmilns and have lunch in the luxury surroundings of Lamlash House, a beautifully restored listed building and former bank. There you will be transported back to 1901. You will meet Mr Mitchell, Merchant Banker and Annie Currie, the house maid from 1901. Annie will serve you lunch and describe events in Lamlash House in that year. After lunch you will take a very short trip to the Morton, Young & Borland Lace Factory. The factory produces lace from looms and bobbins of over 100 years old. It's is renowned for lace produce for period dramas, of film and TV, This icludes lace for costumes in Outlander. MYB also produce lace panels for Timorous Beasties and damask lace for global export. The factory is a facinating insight to the age old process of lace production and links can be made between all venues visited.

This tour will include entance to all three venues and lunch and refreshments at the beautiful Lamlash House. Entertainment will be provided by historical character Annie Currie.
